There is a problem in developed country. That is normally the problem with aging population. With the population giving birth to lesser young, there are more and more greys within our midst and will become more and more in the coming years. Aged people are linked with Experienced whereas the young are linked with words like vibrant and creativity. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of the two groups of people.
Experienced Advantage:
1. Many experiences, know how to solve problems when it occurs.
2. Know the history, and past experience.
3. Living encyclopedia.
4. Many lesson learnt, create a standard in the case of preventions.
Disadvantage:
1. Stereotypes all problem, prevents creative ways of problem solving.
2. Risk adversed. Unable to take risk as brain magnifies small problems.
3. Lack of energy and push.
4. Many lesson learnt, become too cautious about everything.
New BloodAdvantage:
1. Creative
2. Vibrant
Disadvantage:
1. Naive at times.
2. Lack of knowledge.
3. Many times, stubborn.
Well there are other group that is neither the group above. These are people that falls in the middle, in the mid 30s. I call them Hybrids. They are the ones that fall in between and has properties of both the above groups.
SolutionIt is best to have a balance of the above groups of people in a particular team. Because the experienced tends to act as a standard to regulate the risk if the new blood step overboard towards the very risky side.
The experienced should not be too harsh and too pasive about any change or any new ideas that the new blood has come out with.
New blood however should learn and read alot on the past experience of people that succeed as this information may come in handy in the future.
Well, guess that is what most of the company is doing, putting the hybrids on manageral post or team leader is most suitable. This is because they are able to understands the young and the young at heart and make a balance of both.
So please do employ the old and experienced, as they will proof to be a great help to balance your workforce.
Well correct me if I am wrong. Am happy to hear from you in the comments.
